Yaya Touré Threatened To Leave Manchester City After The Owners Didn’t Wish Him Happy Birthday

Touré celebrated his 31st birthday two days after Manchester City lifted the Premiership trophy. The team flew to Abu Dhabi where they and the owners celebrated the winning title with a massive cake.

The owners however didn’t shake Yaya’s hand and wish him a happy birthday which left the player upset. Touré’s agent Dimitri Seluk explained to The BBC:

He got a cake but when it was Roberto Carlos’s birthday, the president of Anzhi gave him a Bugatti.

I don’t expect City to present Yaya with a Bugatti, we only asked that they shook his hand and said ‘we congratulate you’. It is the minimum they must do when it is his birthday and the squad is all together

Of course Yaya is upset about this. If this happened to you as a journalist in the BBC and nobody shakes your hand, you will say bye-bye and go to work for somebody else. It is normal.

Yaya later responded on Twitter

The player also posted this series of tweets which he later deleted.

Jokes aside. Please do not take words that do not come out of MY mouth seriously. Judge my commitment to @MCFC by my performances.—
